Hysteroscopy

A hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows visualization of the uterus using a “hysteroscope”. A hysteroscope is inserted into the vagina, past the cervix and into the uterus allowing the doctors to evaluate the lining and configuration of the uterus. The test is performed while the patient is under IV sedation. It does not require any over-night stay and that patient can return to normal activity almost immediately afterwards.

How do I know if I need a hysteroscopy?

Hysteroscopy is typically used for women who are experiencing abnormal vaginal bleeding or believe to have fibroids present. The bleeding can be an indication of an abnormality within the uterus and a hysteroscopy allows the doctors to see if there is any obvious abnormality which can be contributing to the excessive or irregular bleeding.
